Who Are We?

Concerts for Charities is a club founded in Portola High School (with members from all across Southern California) to provide musical experiences beyond the school curriculum. We combine bimonthly performances at senior homes, City of Irvine coordinated events, as well as school concerts with donated profit to charities in order to give back to the community.

Mr. Adrian Rangel-Sanchez
Mr. Adrian Rangel-Sanchez is the Choir teacher and director at Portola High School. In addition to voice, he is also skilled in guitar and piano. He wishes to spread the warmth of music through the Concerts for Charities club at Portola High School.
Current Leadership & Staff
Justin Pai (Nonprofit Director & Co-Founder, City of Irvine Ambassador) 2017-
Justin Pai is the director and co-founder of the Concerts for Charities Nonprofit. He is currently a third-year at UCLA. Pai is also pianist, accordionist, guitarist, transcriber, and part-time music teacher from Irvine, CA. He wishes to spread his passion for music and create lifelong connections between performers, audience, leadership, and teammates alike.
Titus Ng  (Treasurer and Assistant Secretary) 2018-
Titus Ng is a senior at Portola High School. He enjoys playing piano and has been a pianist since 5 years old. Besides piano, he has also played cello for 6 years. Ng has attended many competitions, placing in the Southwestern Youth Music Festival (SYMF) and MTAC Irvine branch piano competitions. In 2019, he earned the MTAC Certificate of Merit for Piano Advanced Level. He decided to join the Concerts 4 Charities Organization to spread his love for music to others. ​

Yuhao "Brian" Xie (Secretary) 2018-

Yuhao (Brian) Xie is a senior from Portola High School. He has been playing the Alto Saxophone for the past two years. Xie started his Saxophone career in summer of 2014 with his instructor back in his homeland, China, until he immigrated to America in December of2015. Concerts for Charities has given him exposure to more opportunities through their senior home and charity performances. Before he joined the club has never performed in a concert, but after a few months in the club he has been given performance opportunities.
John Zhu (Guitar Section leader) 2017-
John Zhu is a student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He moved to the United States at age 11 from China. John is an experienced guitarist with 8 years under his belt. Zhu feels that music is such a great impact his life as it is able to help him relax and becoming a better person. In addition to music, Zhu enjoys playing Basketball in his free time. Ultimately, without the friends that he has, he would not be the same person. ​

Zachary Smay (Co-Founder, Vice President 2017-2019)
Madison Lee is sophomore at UCLA.  She has been playing piano since she was 4 years old and bass since the 8th grade where she participated in the IUSD Middle School Honors Orchestra. She also played the violin for 4 years. Her favorite types of music are Romantic period and jazz songs. She also volunteers to teach younger bassists in youth orchestras. Madison hopes to use her musical passion and versatility to spread her love for music to the community.
Braden Goldman (Secretary 2017-2018) 
​Zachary Smay is a co-founder of Charities Club at Portola High School.  He has played multiple instruments throughout his life. Those instruments being drums, piano, and saxophone.  He loves the feeling of playing music for people to listen to and enjoy.  He cannot wait to see what this club has to offer others and to see the joy on the audience's faces. ​
